Day Camp Water Safety Instruction
At the Y, we believe every child should be able to learn the skills they need to have fun and be safe in the water. That's why we provide free water safety instruction to all day camp participants who do not pass the YMCA Swim Test. Swimmers under the age of 14 must pass the test before they are allowed to be in the pool area without direct adult supervision.
In 2022, more than 400 day camp participants passed the swim test after completing the water safety instruction course.
What they'll learn
The water safety classes teaches campers …
- How to perform a basic safety stroke
- How to float in the water
- Pool rules and safety practices
- Jumping into the water
When they are ready, campers can re-take the swim test and continue to receive safety instruction until they pass the test or until camp ends, whichever comes first.
