Volunteers can make a difference in a child's life at our Y-Literacy program starting this fall.

The Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA is excited to announce the launch of the Y-Literacy program in the Fall of 2019!

Currently, two out of three Metro Nashville Public School third-graders are reading below grade level.

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s Y-Literacy program has helped bridge the gap throughout Middle Tennessee for the past 10 years by providing free reading tutoring to students reading below grade level.

We pair these students with a volunteer tutor whom they work with one hour per week for a minimum of one semester.

You can help!

Y-Literacy is currently looking for volunteers to read with our students. Volunteers commit to working one-on-one, one hour per week with a student who is reading below grade level.

All volunteers are provided with the necessary training and materials to assist their student in increasing their reading level.

There is no background in education necessary to volunteer. All it takes is a willing heart and a smiling face to help change the life of a child.

For more information on the program, please reach out to Jordan Waller at jswaller@ymcamidtn.org.
