Anne Carr, New Downtown Y advisory board member, is always up for adventure.

Anne Carr is one of the new members of the Advisory Board of the Downtown Nashville YMCA. She took a few minutes to answer questions about her Y journey.

Q: When did you join the YMCA?

A: I joined the Downtown Y when membership opened to women. I worked near downtown and was looking to connect with other runners. Also, I was seeking a place to work out in bad weather or, in the winter, after dark.

Q: What has kept you here for so long?

A: After I had children, I went to the Green Hills Y for a while, partly because they had family services and also a kids’ pool at the time. But I came back to the Downtown Y; it was more accessible after work, and there was a camaraderie downtown that I enjoyed.

Q: Why did you decide to serve on the Advisory Board of the Downtown Y?

A: The opportunity to serve on the board came up after I retired, and I wanted to learn more about the secret inner workings of the YMCA! Seriously, I knew many others had contributed their time and energy. I thought it was only fair for me to take my turn.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish by serving on the Advisory Board?

A: All of the board members want to ensure the Downtown Y has the necessary resources to remain accessible to everyone in the community, regardless of income. We also want every part of our community to be able to connect to others and know the joy of having the support and real friendship.

Q: Anything else you would like to share about the Downtown Y?

A: I feel so welcomed and connected to the Y every time I enter the building. It’s definitely been a source of comfort and stability for me over the years.
