Two Decades Strong
Raul has been a Y-er for two decades. You’ll find him here six mornings a week for at least two hours at a time. Why?
Raul: I’m very social. Not only do I work out, but I also interact a lot, so my workouts tend to be a little longer because I enjoy it.
What’s a typical workout like?
Raul: I do free weights and some machine weights. I also do cardio, which I can’t stand, but it’s something I gotta do!
You’re not alone.
Raul: But I could do this in any gym. The reason I like it here is because it ministers to me physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Physically—working out, spiritually—the Christian atmosphere is unparalleled, and emotionally—I’ve got a lot of friends here.
No kidding! They keep coming up and saying hi.
Raul: Within 20 years, my life has gone up and down a lot, and a lot of people have helped me, and I’ve hopefully helped some others. That’s why I come here.
So, when you’re not changing lives at the Y, what do you do?
Raul: I run a prison ministry. I also run a conservative Hispanic group. I also do real estate. I do a lot. That’s why I need this place.
Oh, you help change lives inside and outside these walls. How wonderful! Thanks for being a Y champion, Raul!
