Pushing Past the Comfort Zone
When Rachel moved here from Florida three years ago, her commitment to health came along. She says she's lost 70 pounds over the last decade.
“I lost all that weight and am trying to keep it up and make it more of a lifestyle thing, not just something I have to do. I want to do it."
The 29-year-old spends days doing pharmaceutical accounting, and many afternoons spinning, lifting, and running.
“In my spin class—I always tell people when they’re afraid to come—there are people of all ages. So anybody can do it. It’s awesome.”
She says old photos of herself and the feeling she has after exercising are the two main things that keep her motivated.
“Once I’m done with it, I’m so glad I worked out; versus if I don’t work out I’m like, ‘I wish I had.’ So it’s kind of like the afterthought of working out gets me to work out.”
What about people who are afraid of what others might think of them?
“My trainer once told me that everyone’s coming to the gym to work out. They’re not worried about what you’re doing. So you can just put your earphones in, and do your thing.”
Any other advice?
“If you bring a friend, and get out of your comfort zone, then it makes it not so intimidating.”
Thanks, Rach. You’re a champ!
