Partnering for Progress
Jonathon and Nina work in the nursing field. He’s been coming to the Y for several years, while she recently had a baby boy and is getting back into exercise. We found them doing their arm routine and wanted to learn more about this dynamic duo.
How long have you been working out together?
Jonathon: Off and on for…like a year?
Nina: Yeah, off and on…more off. [laughs]
Nina, as a new mom trying to get back into a fitness routine, do you have any advice for other moms?
N: Just do it. Just don’t worry about what everybody thinks.
J: You shouldn’t worry about what other people are doing around you because you’re not trying to be fit for them. You’re trying to be fit for yourself.
What do you think about the benefits of working out together rather than by yourself?
N: For me, it helps. He pushes me, versus if worked out alone…I would never work out alone. So, I think he motivates me.
J: Yeah, I think it’s more of a motivating thing—inspiration.
What are some things you couldn’t do at first and now you can?
N: Arm exercises were really hard, but now I’m getting used to them.
That's great! Do you have any specific goals?
N: Just to be fit. I do want to lose several pounds, but if I can see progress, then it’s okay.
J: The body is very unique, so if you do the same thing every day, the body will get used to it. So I’m just looking for progress.
Thanks, you two! We're cheering for you!
