Living 'the Opposite of Unhealthy'
All you musicians out there in Middle Tennessee know it’s tough to keep a healthy routine. When singer-songwriter Jeremy told us he’d lost 40 pounds over the last year and a half, we wanted to know more. What kept you motivated?
Jeremy: It was just time for a change in my life. A couple of years ago, I got sober. I was pretty unhealthy, so I’ve been trying to live a life that’s opposite of that and be healthy.
That’s amazing. What would you say to someone else who feels stuck in unhealthy patterns and doesn’t think they can make a change?
Jeremy: As far as exercise is concerned, all it takes is just a little bit of willpower and finding something you enjoy doing. After that, it’s like a snowball effect.
As a musician, it’s probably hard to keep a consistent routine, huh?
Jeremy: You find a way to do it, even on the road. I book hotels for my band as we tour, and I think, 'I gotta check out the gym first and make sure it has what I need.' I also hit up other YMCA’s across the country. I’ve found that most of them will give you a free 3-day pass if you’re visiting from out of town.
That’s dedication! So, day-to-day, what’s the biggest difference in how you feel now compared to before?
Jeremy: I find that being more disciplined with exercise makes me much more organized and capable of accomplishing much more in my day. The different chemicals that are released in my brain also make me a happier person. Then, the physical effects from feeling good about yourself give you the encouragement you need to feel confident overall in life.
Has the Y community been encouraging as well?
Jeremy: Oh, it’s great. I’m fairly new to lifting, and everyone that I meet here is so helpful. Three days ago, I came in and found the biggest guy in here and said, 'Can you come spot me?' And he was like, 'Sure, man!'
Sure glad to hear your story, Jeremy. Keep on keepin’ on!
