Keeping Fit for Retirement
Brenda says she never set foot in a gym (in her life!) until about 6 years ago. Now, we see her almost every day! What changed for you, Brenda?
Brenda: I have elderly parents. And I’ve seen as they’ve grown older that they’ve lost all their strength. And I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna to do that. I’m gonna keep my muscles strong.’
That’s a great attitude. What was it like when you first started working out?
Brenda: Oh, I could hardly do anything when I first started.
Right? It isn’t easy. What advice would you give others that worked for you?
Brenda: Start slowly, start with things that feel comfortable. And get a friend or a trainer to help you. Just try new things.
Wise words! What’s something new you’re glad you tried?
Brenda: Group classes. I started with Just Weights, which I really like. And I also like Pound a lot because I’m a percussionist.
Nothing better than music and exercise combined. We love that you’ve found your groove here! Any new health goals for the year ahead?
Brenda: Well, I’m going to be 60 this year…
Happy early birthday!
Brenda: …so I’d say, living life to its fullest, being able to travel, being able to walk somewhere when I travel. As you get older, you’ve got to keep your body going because you want to have a nice retirement. You want to do things you’ve always wanted to do.
We like the way you think, Brenda. Also, do you have room in your suitcase? Take us with you!
