Building Strength Step by Step
Hi Beverly on the bike, can we ask you some questions?
Beverly: Oh my goodness!
How long have you been a member?
Beverly: Just a couple weeks
Why did you join?
Beverly: I basically joined to make myself healthier. I was tired all the time, and I just figured that if I exercised, it would help make me stronger.
Have you felt better?
Beverly: I feel like I’m able to walk stairs and stuff without huffing and puffing, you know. I just like it here. Everybody is friendly. They treat you pretty good.
Do you have any specific goals?
Beverly: Right now, I feel that my balance isn’t steady so I’m hoping to get stronger, and then maybe I can join one of the exercise classes. That’s my goal [laughs]. I read y’alls paper about the different classes, and I thought that was something I could aspire to.
What about goals for today?
Beverly: I was trying to make it to 45 minutes. [She’s halfway.]
You can do it!
Beverly: I hope. I’m trying.
Seems like you have some realistic goals
Beverly: I know you have to build up to stuff. You can’t just always be perfect.
Amen to that. What motivates you to come?
Beverly: I just pray for strength and ask God to please help me get here. I just feel that I need to be stronger and this is the only way for me to obtain that—getting up here and building my strength up.
What does your family think about you coming?
Beverly: They think it’s good. My son is a health nut, so he’s proud that I’m going.
We’re proud of you too, Beverly!
