Christ Church Y member CB Loftin credits the Y for helping her rehabilitate after a dual knee replacement.

CB Loftin credits her group exercise classmates for her comeback.

A familiar face around the Christ Church YMCA and an avid group exercise class attendee, CB has participated in BODYPUMP, Zumba, and Dance Blast classes faithfully since February 2013. CB and her classmates have also built a special bond.

“The BODYPUMP instructors and the Dance instructors are all inspirational,” CB says. “I love the diversity at CCY and the people that are in the classes. I believe we inspire each other.”

After battling arthritis, CB’s doctor said she would have to undergo knee replacement surgery for both knees. Due to the strength in her quads and upper body, her doctor suggested having both knees replaced at the same time.

CB entertained his suggestion by asking family, friends and her primary care physician for their thoughts.

“I was getting mixed messages from friends, but nobody here at the Y ever told me ‘Don’t do it,’” CB recalls. “Everyone said, ‘You can do it!’ I felt like I had the backing of everybody here.”

Even CB’s primary care physician shared that under normal circumstances, he would not recommend having both knees operated on at the same time. However, due to her active lifestyle and strength in her muscles, she was a prime candidate for the surgery.

Nicknamed “The Warrior” by her BODYPUMP classmate Sheila, CB underwent the surgery and was back at CCY in just two weeks working out on the NuStep machine!

“The Y is what made me able to do my surgery," CB says. "In my class we call ourselves a tribe. We’ve got each other’s back. I can only get stronger.”

We’re wishing you a speedy and safe recovery, CB!
