Outreach
Restore Ministries of the YMCARestore is a life-changing ministry of the YMCA. Since January 2000, over 5,000 adults from all walks of life have turned to Restore for help. Many people who come to us simply feel their life is out of balance – that something is missing. Others have serious issues they want to tackle. The miracle of Restore groups is that the programs work regardless of the issue. Restore Ministries is committed to being available to all, regardless of income. Sliding scale fees based on household income are available. Please visit www.restoreymca.org for more information or call 565-6278.
After Breast Cancer (ABC) Outreach Program
The After Breast Cancer Outreach Program offers information and peer support, as well as individualized and group exercise regimens to assist post-surgery individuals regain strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
This 16-week program provides the participant full access to the YMCA. The ABC Program is designed to give the breast cancer patient or survivor a place to go for information, exercise and support. The ABC Program is available at both the YMCA of Cool Springs and Rutherford County Family YMCA in Murfreesboro.
Educational Monthly Seminars
Experts from Middle Tennessee are brought into the YMCA to lead these seminars, which address post-surgery and survivorship issues unique to the breast cancer patients or survivors.
Nutritional Counseling
We also provide information on nutrition. Our Registered Dietitian is available to participants to offer guidance and support in a private setting.
Customized Exercise Program
The exercise portion of our program offers participants their own individualized exercise regimen designed by a personal trainer. Exercise is an important way for women with breast cancer to regain some control over their bodies. It helps to increase self-esteem; it relieves stress and improves overall fitness. Emphasis is placed on flexibility and range of motion that is often limited due to surgery. Participants may elect to join group exercise sessions, Yoga or Pilates classes held at the facility.
- This program is open to ALL breast cancer survivors regardless of membership.
