Aquatics
Pool Information- Indoor pool = 25 yards, 1 mile = 36 laps
- Outdoor pool = 25 meters, 1 mile = 32 laps
- Lifeguard always on duty
- Children 6 and under as well as any non swimmers must be actively accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
- When Metro schools are closed due to weather, all aquatics programs will be cancelled and rescheduled at a later date by the instructor.
- Lap swim is available throughout the day
- Lessons for all ages and levels, group or private
- All children under the age of 14 must take a swim test. All swimmers who do not pass a swim test must have a parent in the water with them at all times or wear a PFD.
Swim Lessons
YMCA Swim Lessons offer a unique environment in which your child will learn to swim. Our instructors direct your child's learning through five components: stroke development, personal growth, personal safety, rescue, and water sports and games. The YMCA offers lessons during the fall and winter months on Tuesday and Thursday nights for three weeks, and on Saturdays for six weeks. Come join the fun!

Private: Receive one-on-one, personalized instruction.
Group: Enjoy learning with others your age and ability level.
Class Groupings:
Parent/Child (6-36 months)
Parents accompany their children in the pool to acquaint them with the water environment. Instructors show parents how to work with their child in the pool.
Preschool (ages 3-5)
These lessons offer many children their first experience in the pool without parental assistance. Participants are divided into four levels of skill progression while learning basic pre-swim skills.
Youth (ages 6-14)
Participants are divided into six levels of skill progression while developing greater swimming ability.
Adults (9th grade and older)
Participants are grouped with peers of similar ability while working on improving their swimming skills.

Stroke Development & Competitive Training
Dolphins Swim Team
The Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA swim team is committed to excellence. Our coaching staff consists of several experienced coaches who can provide the expertise necessary for your child's stroke development.Winter Session begins January 5th, 2010-Swim Team is for any swimmer ages 7-21 who can swim 25 yards in the lap pool without assistance.
Practices are Monday-Friday, with optional swim meets on Saturdays.
Safety Classes
First Aid with Blood Borne Pathogens Training
8-11am. Cost for Facility Members - $30. Cost for Program Members - $45.
CPR with AED and Oxygen Training
Noon-6pm. Cost for Facility Members - $40. Cost for Program Members - $55.

Become a Certified or Licensed Lifeguard
Class date is March 15th-19th. Cost is $150 for members and $225 for program participants. Prerequisites: must be able to swim 100 yds (breast stroke or freestyle), retrieve 10lb brick by feet first surface dive and tread water with no hands for a minimum of 1 minute. All participants must be at least 15 years of age. Registrations are due on or before March 12th. (Next class date is April 19th-23rd.)
Water Aerobics
Water aerobics are exercises performed primarily in a vertical orientation in shallow or deep water. This type of exercise usually does not include swimming skills. Water exercise uses movements that amplify drag by unstreamlining the body to create resistance. The goal of this program is to create sufficient intensity to provide fitness training adaptations in muscular strength/endurance, oxygen consumption, flexibility, and body composition.Water Aerobics 101
A 30-minute beginner water aerobics class focusing on using the correct movements in the water. Instructors will ensure you are using all equipment correctly and using proper form so you will be better prepared for a regular water aerobics class.
Arthritic Aqua
An exercise program designed specifically for people with arthritis that uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion and to help maintain muscle strength. It is recommended that you consult with your doctor before enrolling. You do not have to know how to swim.
Senior Water Exercise
This total body workout for active seniors is conducted in shallow water (you do not have to know how to swim). Exercise to improve your flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination and balance. It is recommended that you consult with your doctor before enrolling.
Persistence Exercise
(Non-members welcome $30/month + program membership)
A non-aerobic overall moderate aquatic exercise program for building and/or maintaining range of motion with some strengthening. Emphasis on upper and lower extremities and truck incorporated into warm-up, shallow water walking and exercise, deep water exercise with flotation device, and stretching. A program for individuals who have/had a stroke, head injury or other brain injury, MS, Fibromayalgia or are recovering from an orthopedic condition. Waiver must be signed and turned in to participate.
